Fall Protection That Moves With the Pallet

Elevated pallet positions present a unique challenge in pick modules: employees need easy access to products while also requiring protection from an exposed edge. As products are removed from a pallet the opening, and potential fall hazard, can become progressively larger.

PickerPal was designed to address this challenge with fall protection that responds automatically as the pallet is loaded, picked, and removed.

How PickerPal Works

PickerPal uses independent, spring-loaded steel arms that work as part of the normal material handling process.

When a forklift places a loaded pallet into the pick position, the pallet and product physically push the PickerPal arms open. As an employee picks products from top to bottom, each arm independently returns to its original position.

This creates a simple progression:

• The loaded pallet enters: The pallet and product push the arms open.

• Product is removed: Spring-loaded arms progressively return to position as space becomes available.

• The pallet is emptied: The protective barrier continues to close as the load gets smaller.

• The empty pallet is removed: With a three-arm configuration, the lowest arm returns to position once the pallet is removed.

Instead of requiring an employee to repeatedly open and close a conventional gate, the protective barrier responds to the changing pallet load.

Designed for Real-World Pallet Loads

Every PickerPal arm also includes a caster at its end. This small feature plays an important role when working with shrink-wrapped pallets.

Without a caster, an arm can catch or stick against shrink wrap as a pallet moves into position. PickerPal's casters require less than a pound of pressure to move, allowing the end of the arm to roll along the load instead of dragging against it.

This reduces friction, helps prevent the arm from catching on shrink wrap, and reduces unnecessary stress on the arm as pallets are positioned.

Safety Without Adding Another Step

PickerPal is designed around a straightforward idea: fall protection should work with the picking process, not against it.

The pallet opens the arms, the arms progressively close as products are removed, and the protective barrier returns as the pallet position is emptied.
